Meet our Instructors
Our instructors have decades of experience in teaching Islamic Studies in maktabs. They’ve played a role in developing our syllabus over the years and dedicated much of their expertise to helping train the next generation of Islamic Studies teachers across the country.
Shaykh Hasan Ali
Founder, Safar Academy
Shaykh Hasan Ali graduated in 1997 as a scholar/’ālim in Islamic Education from traditional boarding schools in the United Kingdom and abroad. He then founded Safar Academy in 1998, a pioneering institute shaping the islamic supplementary school with high quality teaching and resources. Today, Safar Academy has five branches around the south-east of the UK with over 90 staff and 800+ students.
Shaykh has also gained a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology at the Institute of Education (University of London) and worked at the Brondesbury College for Boys as the Head of Islamic Studies and Imam.
After a number of flourishing years there, he joined Ebrahim College where he taught a number of subjects, after which he devoted all his time to the development of Safar Academy and Safar Publications.
Safar Publications, non profit publishing arm of Safar Academy Trust publishes textbooks and resources inspiring the next generation of Muslim children growing up in the modern world. Today the resources are used in over 60 countries and 1000’s of institutes around the world.
Shaykh’s life long passion has been to improve and develop the education standards in islamic supplementary learning and is ‘inspiring the next generation’ via the work at grassroots with Safar Academy and internationally via Safar Publications.
Shaykh’s lifetime service (khidmah) is improving and developing the education standards in our institutes and travels the UK and rest of the world to empower teachers, management and students to support those serving their communities.

Muhammed Tufail
Instructor | Safar Publications
Muhammed has a background in Islamic Studies and currently works as a researcher at the School of Oriental and African Studies, working on a project on Muslims in Britain. He has been an editor and developer for the Safar Islamic Studies curriculum since 2013, and has delivered a number of teacher development programs based on his background in teaching Islamic Studies both at a maktab level as well as to teenagers and adults.
Hashim Uddin
Instructor | Amir, Safar North Finchley
Part of the Safar family for almost 20 years, Hashim started his Safar journey as one of the first 5 students in 1998. Many years later, Hashim is now the Amir of North Finchley.
Hashim has a passion for teaching and completed a PGCE at the ‘Institute of Education’ in Business Economics (2009). He completed ‘The teaching leaders programme’ in 2016 and is currently a ‘Head of Department’ at a state school. Hashim is also an examiner with AQA and has been an active member of the teacher training team since its inception.
Maulana Muhi Uddin
Amir, Nakhla Institute | Safar Publications
Muhiuddin memorised the Quran, completed the Alimiyyah course and gained Ijazah in the 10 Qiraa’aat from the Institute of Islamic education in Dewsbury. He has taught Tajwid and Arabic Grammar at Ebrahim College before becoming an Imam and head-teacher of a weekend Islamic supplementary school. He has been working with Safar since 2012 and is the editor of the Learn to Read Series and the Learn by Heart Series. Most recently, Muhiuddin has also received Ijazah in the recitation of Imam Asim from Qari Basheer Siddique al-Madani and continues to train under the Shaykh.
